Objectives
This course will allow students to study the research on,current models, and teaching methods of intensive second language instruction, as well as develop the capacity to plan for and intervene efficiently and effectively in an elementary intensive ESL class. The course will also introduce students to ways of encouraging the creative and interactive participation of all students.
Content
Models of and teaching methods for enriched and intensive courses in second languages. Theoretical background to immersion approaches to second language learning, and the history of teaching Intensive English in primary schools in Quebec. Project-based and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching second language skills. Organisation of the classroom for an effective intensive English experience. Methods of teaching and evaluating vocabulary, grammar, creative writing and oral language exchanges.
