The main objective of this course is to give teachers the intellectual grounding that will allow you to understand and apply, in the classroom, the principles of teaching and learning, developed by the psychology of learning and cognition. The course focuses on the cognitive nature of what is to be learned, how learning occurs, and the social, cultural and psychological factors in both the teacher and the student that influence learning. Teachers who complete this course will be able to translate theory and research into practical classroom applications. You will come to see that teaching is both an art and a science with its own theories and methods that inform effective practice.
